The eye is a sensitive organ that is not only small but it is also an extremely important part. In addition to its importance as an effective part that responsible for most of the information that our brain receives, without eyes we couldn’t see the beauty of nature.
To recognize the importance of eyesight and know how to preserve it, we must first understand how the eye works. When you look at an object, the light from it enters your eye through the pupil. Then, the iris changes the size of the pupil depending on the brightness of light; and the lens focuses the light in the back of the eye to the retina, a complex part of the eye made of a mass of light-sensitive neurons.
The retina on its part turns light into signals about images that the brain can understand. Now let’s see some advices to preserve and improve our eyesight:
1. Proper Nutrition
To perform their functions efficiently, our eyes need proper nutrition, especially foods that are rich in Beta-carotene (a type of vitamin A) such as carrots and other orange-colored fruits. Taking Amino acids and vitamins also keep the eye tissue healthy. Vitamins like A and C, and Omega 3 fatty acids can help you for clear and strong vision.
2. Protection from UV
Protect your eyes from harmful rays like UV rays, which have a devastating effect on the eye and skin, by wearing good quality sunglasses that provide UV protection. Apply this for kids who spend much more time outdoors than adults.
Some simple exercises may help you strengthen your eyesight. For example, you can do the 20/20/20 exercise by focusing on any object that’s at least twenty feet away, for twenty seconds, and do that repeatedly. Finally, you should see the eye doctor to check up your eyes from time to time.
