There are a few unique places on our planet that have this bone-chilling vibe. Even though there was no proof of unearthly creatures hovering around, but those long-abandoned dark places could be even more terrifying. They’ve witnessed the highest level of human fear and curiosity and they’ve tempted the most adventurous souls into their depth. Following are some of the creepiest places in our world.
1. Jocob’s Well, Texas
A tunnel opening that goes down for at least 40 feet and then descending vertically into a colossal underwater system. The water down there is so dark and cold that when the explorers find a body, it appears to have been aptly preserved. Due to the death toll there, a safety gate was installed but it was found destroyed shortly thereafter!
2. Mexican Doll Island, Mexico
It’s an island in the canals of Xochimico which is dedicated by an old man to the lost soul of a little girl he found dead in the water. That old man started stringing dolls to trees’ branches and continued this weird habit for decades. The island is now covered with broken dolls with spiders and insects coming out of their hollow body parts.
3. Aokigahara Forest
In that black sea of trees, where death has haunted the place for more than two haunted years, hundreds of people go to that particular place to kill themselves. The legend said that families used to leave their old sick relatives there to die. The government cleans up the place only once per year, so if all of these hanging dead bodies don’t scare you, the grave robbers might just do.
4. Akodessewa Fetish Market
The largest voodoo market in the world where you can find animal skulls, limbs, and organs as far as your eyes can see. There are more horrifying items pertaining to the craft of black magic which is usually practiced in Togo.
5. Waverly Hills Sanitorium, Kentucky
It was a mental institution that was shut down after several reports of patient abuse. Legend has it that it’s haunted by thousands of ghosts who died in that sadistic madhouse. The best part is that the Asylum still accepts visitors, but don’t forget your searchlight if you want to go and prove this ghost legend wrong.
